We claim:
1. A new and distinct variety of peach tree, substantially as illustrated and described, characterized by its large size, vigorous upright growth and by being a productive and regularbearer of large, firm, yellow flesh, freestone fruit with good flavor and eating quality; the fruit is further characterized by having good handling and shipping quality, holding firm on the tree 7 to 8 days after maturity (shipping ripe), having anattractive red skin color and in comparison to its pollen parent `Zee Lady` Peach (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,832), the new variety is approximately 4 weeks earlier in maturity. |

ORIGIN OF THEVARIETY
The new and distinct variety of peach tree was originated by us in our experimental orchard located near Modesto, Calif., as a first generation cross between `Sweet Gem` Peach (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 7,952) and `Zee Lady` Peach (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,832). We grew and maintained a large group of these first generation seedlings under close and careful observation, during which time we recognized the outstanding fruit characteristics described above and selected the present variety for asexualreproduction and commercialization.
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION OF THE VARIETY
The present new variety of peach tree was asexually propagated by budding, as performed by us in our experimental orchard located near Modesto, Calif., which shows that all said characteristics run true to the original tree and are establishedand transmitted through succeeding propagations.
SUMMARY OF THE VARIETY
The present new variety is of large size, vigorous, upright growth and is a productive and regular bearer of large, firm, yellow flesh, freestone fruit with good flavor and eating quality. The fruit is further characterized by holding firm onthe tree 7 to 8 days after maturity (shipping ripe), having good storage and shipping quality with a high degree of attractive red skin color. In comparison to its pollen parent `Zee Lady` Peach (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,832), the new variety isapproximately 4 weeks earlier in maturity and in comparison to the female parent `Sweet Gem` Peach (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 7,952), the new variety is approximately 3 weeks later in maturity.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying photographic illustrations show typical specimens of the foliage and fruit of the present new variety. The upper and lower surface of the leaves are shown, as are the fruit specimens showing the exterior and a sectional view ofa fruit divided in the suture plane to show flesh coloration, pit cavity and a stone remaining in place. The photographs were taken shortly after being picked at maturity (shipping ripe) and the colors are as nearly true as reasonably possible in acolor representation of this type.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VARIETY
The following is a detailed botanical description of the flowers, foliage and fruit, as based on observations of the specimens grown near Modesto, Calif., with color terminology (except those in common terms) in accordance with Reinhold ColorAtlas by A. Kornerup and J. H. Wanscher.
