| Abstract: |
Grandiflora rose plant having distinctive vigorous upright growth habit, flower clusters with stems long enough to cut, thick leathery petals, a unique light orange with light yellow reverse flower color and a long flower life both on the plant and in the vase. |
| Claim: |
I claim:
1. A new and distinct variety of rose plant of the grandiflora class, substantially as herein shown and described, characterized particularly as to novelty by the unique combination ofits vigorous upright growth habit, flower clusters with stems long enough to cut, thick leathery petals, a unique light orange with light yellow reverse flower color and a long flower life both on the plant and in the vase. |
| Description: |
The present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the grandiflora class which was originated by me by crossing the variety MerKor, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 3,724, with an unnamed seedling.
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety which is vigorous and healthy with many blooms in an appealing color. The objective was substantially achieved along with other desirable improvements as evidenced by thefollowing unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in the new variety and which distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
1. Thick, leathery petals;
2. Long flower life both on the plant and in the vase;
3. Unique flower color;
4. Vigorous, very upright growth habit;
5. Flower presentation often in clusters that have long individual stems.
Asexual reproduction of this new variety by budding, as performed at Wasco, Calif., shows that the foregoing characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
Theaccompanying illustration shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of this new variety in different stages of development, depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of thischaracter.
The following is a detailed description of my new rose cultivar with color descriptions using terminology in accordance with the Royal Horticultural Society (London) Colour Chart, except where ordinary dictionary significance of coloris indicated.
