A conveyor belt alignment device comprises an idler roller mounted relative to a conveyor belt, the idler roller having a first cylindrical portion extending over the conveyor belt proximate an edge thereof, and a second cylindrical portion abutting against an edge of the conveyor belt for preventing lateral movement of the conveyor belt relative thereto. The idler roller is biased toward the conveyor belt in a direction substantially perpendicular to a plane defined by an upper surface of the conveyor belt to allow debris to pass between the idler roller and the conveyor belt and thus reduce damage to the conveyor belt.
