A bisazo compound of the general formula: ##STR1## where Ar is selected from the group consisting of substituents (a) .about. (i), a dinitro compound, a diamino compound, and a tetrazonium salt, which respectively serve as a starting material, a first intermediate and a second intermediate for producing the above bisazo compound are prepared, and an electrophotographic photoconductor comprising an electroconductive support having thereon a photoconductive layer containing any of the above bisazo compounds is disclosed.
