Description: Apparatus under subclasses 801.1+ wherein the straplike member allows at least some limited movement of the occupant"s body relative to his seat during normal operation of the vehicle and includes means, responsive to a sudden deceleration or impact of the vehicle, to either (a) lock the straplike member against extension thereof by the occupant"s body as the occupant is forced against the straplike member so as to restrain the occupant to his seat or (b) tighten the straplike member by means of a takeup device about the occupant"s body so as to restrain the occupant to his seat.
