Description: Support comprising a device which includes means particularly adapted to receive a staff (i.e., a pole-like or rod-like member) and to support it in one or more attitudes relative to either (1) the device, (2) the surface or object upon which the device relies for its support, or (3) a principal plan (e.g., horizontal, etc.). The device may (1) be a stand or base, (2) include structure in the form of a ground insertable member, or (3) be a bracket. The staff receiving means usually is a distinct element such as a socket, cradle, ring, etc.; in rare instances, however, it may be an integral portion of the device. Typical examples of a staff are a fishing rod, a flagpole, a tree trunk and an umbrella stick. Included in this subclass (511) are structures involving the rather peculiar arrangement wherein the device supports only part of the weight of the staff; i.e., the staff rests also, at some other point of its length, upon a surface or an object. Included are "stands" comprised of a plurality of individual, leg-like members which have no engagement with one another, and which achieve an operative relationship with one another only at such time as they are attached to an end of a staff for supporting it in an upright position.
